1. children: isn't that what holidays are all about, anyway? slippers, snuggling, meltdowns- i'll take whatever i can get. reading christmas stories, having my knitting ripped out of my hands, all by these two delighful little pieces of work. i'm convinced that it's impossible to get a normal picture of them both- one of them is always pinching or moving or crying or hiding- so this was our official thanksgiving photo of the two of them- gray pinching her brother's "lobies"- (since gray was born, she's been obsessed with earlobes...to this day, whenever she cries, she immediately reaches for my lobes and tugs on them).

2. slippers: the whole family has new slippers, and we've been wearing them non-stop. i was the only one without them, until i couldn't stand it anymore and went out and bought the pair that i've been drooling over. and yes, they are trendy and all over the place, but if you could just s.l.i.d.e. your feet into them, you'd know why i needed them so badly.

3. food: these past four or five days have been filled with the best kind of incredible food. and we only managed to catch the kitchen on fire once! (you think i'm kidding- i'm not...here's proof).

chocolate silk pie with shortbread and pecan crust was one of my holiday favorites this year, along with the sausage stuffing and homemade spring rolls last night for dinner (see boo's post about what to do in case of a spring roll emergency).
the homemade placecards didn't hurt either:

4. chocolate: watching joey eat his first handful of chocolate chips was highly satisfying for me. although unhealthy and probably horrible, seeing his gooey chocolate hands and happy brown chocolate teeth made me burst inside with happiness.

5. the foundations, and all records: we've been big into the records here over the weekend, esp. the old school scratchy christmas kinds, as well as the foundations "build me up buttercup". seeing gray sing this song is probably one of my most favorite things in the world. even daddy gets in on the fun. and then standing on the tables and benches, screaming christmas lyrics into fake microphones. a must-have for the holidays.
our neighbors must think we're insane.

and here's a little shoutout to all my peeps who've visited, hung out, eaten with me, and taken caramel through our little family flu fest over the past week or two...you really build me up. thank you!

Your kids are such cutie patooties! I picked up a Bing Crosby CD at work and we can't stop listening to it, Jack walks around our place mumbling, "Walkin'inda windawondaland...". Lovin' it!
i seriously love your kids. that picture of gray and joey is ADORABLE! i can only imagine you'r home for the holidays...i know it is magical. and i promise to send that book tomorrow. it is all packed up and labled, ready to go!
When is Joey's birthday, I never wrote it down? I wish I were there to sing Build Me Up Buttercup with you, it's one of my fav's.
hello buttercup... looks like a great holiday :) those place cards are keepers!
Hello to my favorite mama! I LOVE this post! I think it's my favorite thus far, especially the part about the kids. You and I "click" because we have so much in common when it comes to our kids.
And the "Buttercup" song had me laughing-out-loud. My cousins sing that song every time we hit a karaoke bar.
I love standing on the couch and singing too (soup-ladles make awesome microphones). Yup, silly is very cool!
Much love,
Tab :)
PS: Tell that handsome brother of yours I said hello and give him a hug from me!
My nephew is another "lobie" lover (and he's six now!)...so cute. I loved how you boiled it all down to five words. If your neighbors think you're insane, just smile! You already know what really matters...
that is the best song ever... I have very fond kareokee memories of that ...
ooh, catchin the house on fire is so invigorating- holy!
thanks for stopping by Nina- your compliments give me smiles~
Oh Nina...I wanna come stay with you for Christmas! This looks/sounds so much fun! And those kids...I want to bite their cheeks off! Or their lobies :)
And PS, my friends and I ALWAYS sing Build Me Up Buttercup in the car. It's a classic, along with Let's Get It On and Don't Go Breakin' My Heart.
this is a song meant only to be sung at the very top of your lungs with kidlets dancing around on the tables as you rock out....
miss you, and this belly would love a rub!
hugs, A
sounds like the bestest time ever!
you, your home, your kiddies - love the whole package!
I love this post -- your five words are the best. Your family is amazing!!!
xoxo,
Steph
I have to tell you that I wouldn't miss your blog for the world. I look forward to a new post each morning. I got such a kick out of your Thanksgiving posts (and the fire) that I actually dreamt about you and your family. I know, it sounds a little stalker but it's all in the fact that I'm envious of Boo that he has you for a friend. You are such a cool person. I hope one day to actually meet you.
you build all of us up too!
what IS it about "buttercup"? it is the #1 most favorite song among all of our young neices, nephews and cousins. i think it may be because it is literally the happiest song ever written. (Though the lyrics are sad - a brilliant song writing technique, but i digress..)
LOVE the five words and especially love the pic of joey with the chocolate. he really was a hoot gobbling up those chips!
xo,
aunties lib & jo
