i am lucky enough to call myself a stay at home mama, for the most part at least (for the most part SAH, not for the most party lucky). granted, i worked today, but it was only for an hour, and i made enough money in that hour to justify not working for the rest of the day. and if we're being honest, i'd do the work i do for free, because i'm a dork like that and i love giving massages in my sage green workspace so much.
with that being said, my stay-at-home-mamaness allows me to not only spend time with my two delicious mini-human friends that i like to call my children, but also to host a parade-worthy amount of individuals throughout my day. my days are shaped by the visits- who's here now and who's coming next. it's what gets me through the day, every day. maybe it's because i lived so far from family and fetus-friends (and my hubby) while living in very-upstate NY through long winters, but i have a deep appreciation for each and every visitor that comes through the nina beana door. breakfast with my father's fiance, a long chat and babysitting from my mother-in-law, a visit from my dad bearing gifts of my favorite syrian bread and butter, my old friend peep who works for the town popping in for a drink, a bottle of wine with my girl after the beans are in bed, my brother catching up about life and love, and boo who is downstairs right now with the beans making a homemade pineapple upside down cake in a skillet for dinner (ok ok, dessert).
these visits and conversations and snippets of other people's lives keep me honest and alive. i'm a big fan of hearing what people have to say behind my doors. i've been obsessing lately about confessions and secrets (i've been hearing quite a bit of them lately, esp. at work), and what we share with each other in these moments. my job as a SAHM (stay at home mama, or shit ass ho motherfucker, as dooce likes to call it) allows me to go to confession all day long, and hear the confessions and secrets of all my peeps that i hold near and dear. it's kind of like being a priest, but waaaaay better.

God love you for what you do! As I always say you are a testament! I miss gossiping with you! So Albany?? When??
amen sister.
SAHM's shape and rock this world! You and I connect in many ways. In friendship, age has no boundaries! I too love my job visiting schools as a children's book author. I make enough to justify my being a PROUD, live out-loud SAHM! Have I told you lately you're my favorite mama!?
From one bean lover to the other--I heart you.
Much love,
Tab
That's about the best post I've ever read. From one SAHM to another, I love ya!
Ahhh, I need me some friends real quick. This made me homesick.
I want to come and worship at the Church of Nina Beana.
As a "most part SAHM", I loved your post! I only wished that I lived closer to peeps so I could have more visitors. We get lonely here sometimes, but I guess that helps us to look forward to big visits with my favorite friends!
Miassss you. Seriously think about a date next week or the week after.
xoxoxox,
Steph
I don't know what I would do if you weren't my neighbor. Remember all of those letters back and forth where we wondered what it would be like if we could enjoy all of our experiences face to face rather than through pages of writing? It finally happened. I Love being a part of your life.
being a SAHM rocks, doesn't it? have an awesome weekend (like you usually do). take care. xo.
You do seem to have a lot of visitors, m'lady. That's so cool. I want to cultivate that in my neck of the woods, but most of my friends work 9-to-5s or live far away. When I talk to the other SAHMs I know, we're like,
"We should get together."
"Yeah."
Wish we lived closer!
happy st. pat's to you.
wish i was there.
i am going to be in ma to visit my parents over easter. can we meet up and play? i miss you and want to see those beans.
ms. beana, o how i luv ya. my husby and i sold our home and moved to a different city so i could be a sahm.
i'm forever grateful to him for this opportunity. though, i am sometimes conflicted with feelings of unequalness because i'm not bringing home any of the soy-bacon. and i find it truly the most challenging "job" i've ever, yet the most important which can be quite terrifying at times. please tell me more about the challenges of being a sahm and any tips you can share that might help some fumbling new mum's like me. what's your little beans' favorite meal?
what's the quickest, most nummy recipe you can think of? do you get to shower every day? i don't (that's my confession), am i the only one?
