i took this picture yesterday. yesterday afternoon to be exact. both of my kids were on napping strikes, and the chaos level at my house was at an all-time high. i found myself losing my patience. wanting to have my "me" time that i value so much- just a couple of minutes to get me recentered in the afternoon. i was losing it, needing a break- losing my cool when the kids were testing me. i took a step back from the situation, leaned up against the nearest wall, and took this picture. imperfect mama. mama needing a break. a nap. some tea or some ice cream, just to get through the afternoon.and to counteract all this imperfectness goin' round- i offer you this poem by allen ginsberg:
I made love to myself
in the mirror, kissing my own lips,
saying, "I love myself,
I love you more than anybody."

i have lots of moments like these sweet nina...you are perfect in your imperfections! and one of the most wonderful mamas i know :)
You don't know how much I needed this post this morning dear Nina, seriously. I said something awful to my daughter and later, I caught my internal dialog saying, 'you really suck' almost like a sighing resignation.
I love your pic here and especially that beautiful necklace. xo
I think we had the same day yesterday. Us mommas need to stick together to keep our sanity!
what a wonderful necklace... hope that moment infront of the lens gave you time to regroup and take on the rest of your day.
mmm poetry.
I'm glad you still love yourself...because I love you and your blog and all your imperfections! Namaste!!!
The necklace is beautiful, is it a Ninertins original? Breathing in, breathing out, this moment too shall pass...
thanks for the necklace props, peeps. i actually picked it out of my dad's garage at lunchtime yesterday, about an hour before i took this pic. my dad's an antique junkie- and i found this in a big box of pooey jewels. i love the big brassy leaves- i just had to have it. of course, so did joey-, so it didn't last long. i'll only be able to wear it during solo time, without my little grabbie one trying to rip it off.
Hope those kidlets are napping away today! I can relate as of late.
Thanks for sharing the poem. I definitely need more poetry in my life!
sometimes when we're trying to be smoothly flowing streams of love and harmony for our families, our kids just have to swim upstream and, man, is that water heavy to wade through against the current...
I know exactly where you're coming from...
you just needed those precious 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 minutes to yourself!!!
keep taking those deep breaths and photos!
Vx
I know those "imperfect mama" moments too. The other day I was on the phone with my sis and her kids were interrupting and demanding her attention. Suddenly, she said to her kids: "Hello, Mama isn't here right now. Leave a message at the sound of the beep and I'll get back to you. BEEP."
There was silence in her house (except for MY hysterical laughter echoing through the phone). I asked her what the kids were now doing. She said they had all left the room -- without leaving a message. She too was having one of those days where the constant demands were weighing her patience and all she could do was stop and have a bit of fun with the moment.
So, when life gets too crazy--always remember to BEEP :)
Much love to my favorite mama!

You are the most perfect mama that I know. And not just to those kiddies. You take quite good care of me too. And I may want to peruse through yuor dad's supposed pooey jewels. I may just fall in Love with them.....
LOVE this poem and love your necklace, darling.
you rock.
I have had many of these moments the past couple of weeks, stepping back and taking a breath really helps me out.
Oh, and perfect peice of writing to go along with this entry :)
We all have those moments, don't we? I often wish I could be as resilent as my kid is, he can forget everything in the space of 60 seconds and just forge ahead.
Oh my, do I know this feeling well. The is the human side of being a mother; I always tell myself that it is okay to feel this way...because, I am, well human.
I hope that you got that moment. Lovely funky necklace!
I know those times oh so well, hope you found some peace.
that poem was pretty introspective for 1951!?
What a good mom you are...good for you for breathing (gee- that sounds pretty strange all by itself) :)
much love,
