self portrait challenge: me with my number two

me. my baby boy. pickin' apples in the orchard. the first bite. the first pucker. falling in love with fall.

it's no secret that grace was a challenging wee one. she was demanding, cranky, high maintenance in that i-can't-get-enough of her kind of way. she's always had a strong personality from the start. but at some point, i thought for sure that i was meant to be the mama of just one wee one. i couldn't certainly parent two of these strong-willed, challenging babes, now could i? people started asking when i was going to have number two, and my answer slowly became, "no number two for us." as grace got older, and cooler, and more independent (almost too independent!)- i had a change of heart. i wanted another bean! and then came joey. my number two. my baby boy. every single time i look at him, i think "thank god we had him! what if we never had him?!?" i'm not kidding you, i think this every time. he's so different than anything i could have ever expected. bright red hair. rosy cheeks (well, today after being in the cold at least), the fairest complextion, the fattest legs. sweet, kind, complacent pummie. and there's room for him to change and grow, to be needy and high maintenance, too. i've changed as a mama...much more relaxed now i think. not much phases me anymore. not quite sure about number three...i may leave that up to my more prolific mama friends. but i sure am glad that joe is my number two.

love how he's grabbing my superhero necklace- superhero powers by osmosis? although i'm not loving the fact that he's broken two of my necklaces in the past two weeks, one of which i made myself. will i ever learn?

Great pictures of you and Joey. I gave up on wearing necklaces, unless I am going out with just Bobby. I can't tell you how many have been ripped off my neck, never to be repaired.

i love the pictures. i love that you get to spend time with just pummy and bond with him. i'm glad that you decided to have #2. he totally rounds out the gilbert family.

Every single one of these shots are terrific. I agree with la vie, #2 looks a lot like your hubs. And what's better than Fall apple picking? I'm hard-pressed to say!

My own Kid has destroyed two bead necklaces. The ones with the crimp beads just can't stand up to his little fists. Knotted thread seems to be okay, with a dab of glue, though

I think things like that about my kids to, what if we'd never had them? I'm so excitied to see who this little one in me is going to be.

Ah, sweet baby boy. :) Never say never on number three... I said that right after number two... and low and behold 13 months later out came number three.

I am with my number two this week as well:)

isn't it funny how kids are so different? i am the oldest and i'm loud and assertive and love school and am passionate...my baby bro is waaaaaayyyy mellow and unemotional and athletic and just my opposite in every way. it's great when you have a balance.

i just want to bite his little cheeks and squeeze his little legs...is that OK? he's so stinkin' cute...

i'm sending your package soon...it's been a nutty week and a half. but just when you least expect it, it will arrive!

I feel the same way, Seth is like Grace was so I'm hoping the 2nd will be more like Joey! Here's hoping, but not any time soon!

I couldn't imagine life without my Joey either. Is there anything greater than being a Mom?

I'm off to plan my October psychic party: two fantastic New England psychics, tarot readings, good food, incense and some close friends and family. I can hardly wait!

Until the next chapter....

Much love,
Tabatha

In 51 hours I will get to meet this beautiful cherub of a son of yours. I can hardly wait. It is amazing how each child has this definite distinct personality of their own. As early as moments out of the womb they are so individual. Also I love when parents let their children be unique as opposed to fitting in a mold or how they perceive they need to be.

my number one is the child I needed to have, to keep me humble in my opinions of parenting

my number two is the child I needed to have, to give me all the confidence and security to feel that I am a good mom

my number three is the child I needed to have to make sure that I didn't then assume I knew everything....
