and feel free to reassure me that i am not going crazy.
"what's happening?" you ask. "how are you feeling?"
and here's the part where i look at you and tell you that i really have no freakin' idea.
things are wonderful.
still.
but i'm also dealing with all these strange post-squam feelings.
feelings that vacillate between thinking my head might blow off from all the creativity,
where i go to the store and stock-pile supplies and come home and spend the day
creating things with myself and with the kids.
the house is a beautiful mess
of painted papers
and scraps
and baskets of supplies.
there are twinkling lights hanging up in my studio space
and i feel like the floodgates have opened wide
and everything is flowing and right.
but i also feel
overwhelmed
and shut off
like i need to hibernate
like maybe i dind't make enough connections
that maybe people didn't like me enough
all those nasty
g.r.e.m.l.i.n.s.
that andrea scher talked about
are rearing their ugly heads.
why now?
why after all that beauty and perfection?
maybe it's the shock of being back in my daily life,
where rountine is a big ugly beast.
i'm fighting it.
i'm trying to live more genuinely in the moment.
i keep thinking back
to penelope's class
where i gathered sticks
alone
and formed them into a simple circle
and the light was dappled
and shining through the branches up above
into the center of the circle
and i stood inside
and took a deep breath
and just was.

i'm simultaneously overwhelmed and isolated, glowing and sparkling and all over the place.
shoulder to shoulder, sister. xo
while *at* squam, i spent too much of my time wondering and worrying that i didn't "make enough connections" and "that maybe people didn't like me enough." nasty little gremlins. now that i've been home for several days, i'm finally starting to calm down and feel more like myself and get my creative juices flowing. and finally able to stop wondering and worrying. so just know that the gremlinly feeling will pass.
(also? i could see how much people like you. you are a well of goodness and i only wish we'd had the opportunity to connect more often and more deeply!)
mama. EVERYONE adores you. 'specially ME.
xo,
A
those gremlins are just trying to keep you from making progress. so get those army boots on and squash em! i do however think that ALL of us are feeling this way. i've kept myself running since the moment my plane landed... until today. and now the emotions are washing over me... i can't tell if they're cleansing me or drowning me though.
you are vibrant and beautiful. you make people feel safe. everyone loves you, i promise. especially me. i really need a playdate right now. i need our kids jumbled together making llama faces. and i need to just sit with you and listen to you breathe.
man, i just can't stop crying.
Like the ink on my back "This Too Shall Pass" ... don't over think or fester a "what if" ... a moment is what it is. Don't question yourself, embrace the day and NEVER allow a crafty mess to ruin all the fun you had making it in the first place! Motherhood and wifehood never runs according to schedule -- and that's okay. Now go turn on some tunes, shake that booty and have your hubby put on the pretty dress and skip around the yard again ;)
I heart you more than chocolate!

oh beautiful neen. i can't imagine anyone NOT liking you. and i would just like to say for the record: those who love you are wise peeps and those who don't can go suck it.
i hear you
i see you
i love you
nina,
me too!
does anyone like me now that they saw me in real life?
am i a fraud and have i been found out?
these gremlins suck.
all i can say is ride the wave. keep creating. let your house collect beautiful messes and bear witness to all that is unfolding.
you are a dear, dear treasure.
That post sums it up for how I have been feeling too. It has been strange.
I'm so glad I met you, it was fun sharing meals, and talking, and watching you jump in the lake on that cold day!!
Keep creating, and holding on to the good post-squam feelings. Kick those gremlins to the curb! :)
Beautiful Nina ~ although we did not have much time together, I loved sharing our cabin with you! I so understand the feelings you write about.... it really was a magical moment in time. Your kindness shines through, dear one. Hope we meet again next year. Stay well ~ xo Deb
I do this too, I think it's my way of working through my past (shy awkward nerd who was always made fun of in school) but now, as an adult, after a few days of fretting about how things went I get over it and feel good about in the end. Progress!
My sister and I want to go to Squam next year, looks totally and completely lovely from everyone's posts.
Oh and I am sure everyone lurved you, how could they not love that baby belly goodness!
you are a gorgeous soul...who soars, eventhough you may not realize it. but i have been feeling the same things. i think
we all have. you are not alone.
i so loved watching you enter the room.
peace.
Let me help you quiet those gremlins -- the places where gremlins stir are the places of your emerging greatness -- ponder that!
Thanks so much for the reminder on your bookbag quote -- I just added a link to your blog and cafepress shop in the post.

oh sweet girl....there are so many of us feeling like you right now, yet you said it perfectly !!!
and those gremlins...set a few traps, catch them and stomp on them with those FABULOUS boots of yours....
they'll be gone before you know it !
Hey Nina,
Me again. The e-mail didn't show up -- want to try again? My e-mail is stuttle2@verizon.net I couldn't find your e-mail on your blog.
I'm so excited -- what could it be? -- I love surprises! You are such a sweetie!

oh yes yes-- me, too-- WHY? how? do those gremlins come in and mix it all up?
but there was beauty and goodness-- and I think, at least for me, stepping out of it and back into real life-- makes me question if it was even real or not or just something I fabricated in my head--
re-entry has been confusing--
bisous, Elizabeth
just know this is all normal....the more profound an experience is, the longer it takes to manage all that energy and find places for it to puddle and soak inside of you. but it will. the fucky gremlins know this, and feel afraid, and i just want to offer you setting time limits on how much air time they are getting in your head. share that air with more poop songs, and with the love of all your friends.
after having gone through several stages of re-entry, im now approaching hermit mode. (i actually love this stage) i want nothing more than to be surrounded by earth and sky and nothing man made.
you are not alone sweet one,
not for one bit. and by the way,
YOU are one of the many i wish i had gotten more time with...
much love
jen gray
i so get this.
you are not alone.
i often get overwhelmed by the good things, which seems strange. like if too many good opportunities flood in at the same time, or i get a few sincere compliments...there is something in me that starts to panic. it is a learning process to let it in without judgement. those f-ing gremlins want to cling to the old hurt.
you radiate life and joy, what a beautiful space you have created. i send you lots of love.
warmly,
mccabe x
